Protecting Your Child’s Smile with Pulpotomy in Jubilee Hills

Is your child experiencing toothache or sensitivity? They might need a pulpotomy. At Kigo Dental in Jubilee Hills, we specialize in gentle and effective dental care for children.

What is a Pulpotomy?

A pulpotomy is a dental treatment to save a child’s tooth affected by decay. It involves removing the infected part of the tooth’s pulp (the soft tissue inside) and sealing it to prevent further decay.

Why Choose Pulpotomy?
  • Saves the Tooth: Unlike extracting the entire tooth, a pulpotomy preserves the natural tooth structure, allowing it to serve its purpose until the adult tooth grows.
  • Pain Relief: It effectively addresses toothache caused by decay.
  • Prevents Infection: By removing the infected pulp, we prevent the infection from spreading.
  • Aesthetics: The treated tooth can be restored to look natural.

FAQs
  • Is pulpotomy painful? We use local anaesthesia to numb the area, making the procedure painless.
  • How long does the procedure take? The duration varies depending on the child’s age and the extent of decay.
  • Will my child need a crown after a pulpotomy? In many cases, a crown is placed to protect the treated tooth.
  • How can I prevent tooth decay in my child? Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are essential. A healthy diet low in sugary foods also helps.

“Vital Pulpotomy”: This type of pulpotomy is performed when the decay has reached the pulp chamber but the pulp is still healthy enough to be preserved. In this procedure, only the affected portion of the pulp is removed, leaving the healthy portion intact. The remaining pulp tissue is then covered with a medicament and a restoration is placed to seal the tooth.

“Non-Vital Pulpotomy”: This type of pulpotomy is performed when the pulp tissue is already infected or necrotic. In this procedure, the entire pulp tissue is removed from the root canal system, and the root canal space is then disinfected and filled with a filling material. This type of pulpotomy is also known as root canal therapy.

Anaesthesia: The area around the affected tooth is numbed with a local anaesthesia to ensure that the child feels no pain during the procedure.

Isolation: The dentist will isolate the affected tooth from the rest of the mouth to keep it clean and dry during the procedure.

Removal of decay: The dentist will remove any decayed tissue from the affected tooth to prevent the decay from spreading further.

Pulpotomy: If the tooth’s pulp is still healthy enough to be preserved, the dentist will remove the affected portion of the pulp and place a medicament to encourage healing.

Restoration: The dentist will place a filling material over the medicament to seal the tooth and protect it from further decay.

Follow-up: The child will typically be asked to return for a follow-up visit to ensure that the tooth is healing properly and to monitor its progress.

FAQ's

A pulpotomy is a dental procedure that involves the removal of the coronal portion of the pulp tissue from a tooth, followed by the application of a medicament to promote healing and prevent infection.

A pulpotomy is recommended when the decay or damage to the pulp is extensive, but the tooth can still be saved. It is usually performed on primary teeth in children, but adults may also need this procedure.

The dentist will remove the diseased portion of the pulp, clean and sterilize the remaining pulp, and fill the space with a special dental material. In most cases, a crown will be placed over the tooth to protect it.

Local anaesthesia is used to numb the area, so the procedure should not be painful. After the procedure, you may experience some discomfort or sensitivity, but your dentist can recommend pain relief measures.

The duration of the pulpotomy procedure may vary depending on the complexity of the case and the technique used. Typically, the procedure takes between 30 and 60 minutes to complete.

Most people can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure. You may experience some discomfort or sensitivity for a few days, but this should improve with time.

The success rate of a pulpotomy is high, and the tooth can last for several years. However, the longevity of the tooth depends on factors such as oral hygiene, diet, and regular dental check-ups.

It is possible for a tooth to become infected again after a pulpotomy, especially if proper oral hygiene is not maintained. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to prevent reinfection.

Pulpotomy is typically performed on primary teeth (baby teeth) that have large carious lesions, trauma, or irreversible pulpitis. The procedure aims to preserve the tooth and prevent the spread of infection to surrounding tissues.

After a pulpotomy, the patient should avoid hard or sticky foods and maintain good oral hygiene practices. Follow-up appointments should be scheduled to monitor the healing of the tooth.
